Obadiah servant of the LORD

To Edom. The Edomites were a proud people who lived in fortified cities high in the mountains. They were close relatives of the Israelites. Their ancestors Esau (Edom) and Jacob (Israel) were twin brothers.

Nevertheless, the Edomites stood by and did nothing when Judah was attacked by her enemies. Instead of helping the refugees, Edom handed them over to their enemies, looted their homes, and even killed some of them.

God did not allow Edom to go unpunished for such callous treatment of their relatives. God said, “As you have done, it will be done to you.”
